Wild Women EUROPE

“I came so that they may have life and have it abundantly.” – John 10:10

THE INAUGURAL RUN

“There is nothing more rare, nor more beautiful, than a woman being unapologetically herself.” – Steve Maraboli

2024 was the 1st edition of the Europe Wild Women adventure. After much discussion and route recce’s, Lucille van der Merwe, Kristina Sheer and Lundy Clark opted to host the 1st WWEU on the Camino de Santiago (St James Way) starting in Vigo and ending at the magnificent cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Spain.

The inaugural Europe event in 2024 saw 22 ladies from 10 different countries and cultures join to embark on their adventure. They ran, climbed and hiked 110km of trail and cobbled paths. The combination of distance, hills and paths were challenging, but mother nature saw fit to add in some pretty extreme weather conditions with the ladies having to face torrential rains and gale force winds enroute!

Wild Women in Europe will continue to attract like-minded women to join the adventure on an annual basis.

The plan moving forward is to select suitable trails in Europe, the location of which may vary from year to year.

RUNNING FOR A REASON

As with the South African sisterhood, we select local beneficiaries close to our hearts, specifically focusing on children.

The European charity chosen for 2024 was War Child Germany, this beneficiary may change from year to year depending on the WWEU host country.

A portion of all international funds are transferred back to the “mother ship” WWOTR, to distribute to the chosen WW charities in South Africa.

HOW TO SUPPORT US

All our chosen community projects are registered non-profit organisations (NPOs).

Private individuals are also welcome to donate to any participating Wild Women

All funds raised are donated directly to the selected community projects.

Each Wild Woman is required to ‘pay her own way’ – none of the sponsorship money is used to fund runners. Every donation, irrespective of value, makes a direct difference in the lives of our beneficiary women and children.
